In 2012 James decided to return to sport, looking to the federation where it all began the MPAGB – Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain. James was delighted to see that there as a number of sports within the Global Union of Modern Pentathlon that would offer World, European and National titles in the disciplines that he had enjoyed for many years.
Together with best friends Andy Mackenzie and John Tighe, James sets out to return to International competition for Great Britain. This was to take the shape in age group competition in the sport of Biathle (running, swimming, running) and then Triathle incorporating three of the disciplines of the Pentathlon (shoot, swim, run). This ultimately led James back to the full Modern Pentathlon in 2018. James is still actively training and is arguably one of the most successful male master’s athletes in the sport today.
James’s primary targets for 2020 are the Modern Pentathlon World Championships to be held in Hungary in September and to defend his World title in Triathle in Germany in August.
